Bahamas post Caribbean Group F win; Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago triumph in Group A

2.9.07 - The hosts Bahamas began the Caribbean Group F Qualification to the CONCACAF Under-23 Tournament with a 6:1 win over the US Virgin Islands at the BFA National Centre in Nassau on 2 September. Happy Hall and Shermord Thompson scored two goals each for the Bahamas (1-0-0, 3 Points) in the victory against the US Virgin Islands (0-1-0, 0 Points). The Caribbean Group F continues at the BFA National Centre on 4 September as the US Virgin Islands takes on the British Virgin Islands (0-0-0, 0 Points). The triangular ends two days later in Nassau when the Bahamas greets the British Virgin Islands. Elsewhere in Caribbean Qualification, Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana triumphed over the Netherlands Antilles and the hosts, Surinam, respectively, in Group A at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadium in Paramaribo on 2 September. Simeon Augustus, Shane Calderon and Carlyle Mitchell scored for Trinidad & Tobago (2-0-0, 6 Points) in the 3:0 victory against the Netherlands Antilles (0-2-0, 0 Points), while Guyana (1-1-0, 3 Points) got goals by Konata Mannings and Dwight Peters to defeat Surinam (1-1-0, 3 Points) 2:1. The Caribbean Group A concludes on 4 September at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadium with Guyana taking on the Netherlands Antilles and then Surinam facing Trinidad & Tobago. The winners of Group A & F will join four other Caribbean group victors in the second round that consists of two three-team groups scheduled to play in October 2007. The top finishers in each triangular group will progress to the 2008 CONCACAF U-23 Final Round Tournament. Elsewhere, the Men’s U-23 Central American Preliminary Qualification will have two groups of three with Panama hosting El Salvador and Honduras from 7-11 November, while Guatemala welcomes Costa Rica and Nicaragua from 14-18 November. The winners of each triangular will advance to the CONCACAF Men’s U-23 Tournament along with two Caribbean teams, Canada, Mexico and USA with venue and dates to be announced.
