ELROY ‘MANDRAKA’ MILLS NEW FIFA REFEREE INSTRUCTOR

BVIFA- April 21, 2007. Elroy Mandraka Mills successfully completed a FIFA administered Futuro 11 Referees Instructors Course in Switzerland from March 25 to 29 2007. The course was open to football associations that are members of the regional body Concacaf, and attended by former FIFA Referees with the potential of instructing young referees. As members of Concacaf, the British Virgin Islands was represented by Mi. Mills, who has recently retired as a FIFA International Referee. After successfully completing the FUTORO 11 Referee Instructor’s course, Mr. Mills is now qualified to work with any national association in referee instruction. Each graduate from the course has to become active in their respective association to maintain their instructor status. The graduates were contracted by FIFA to work in the English speaking Caribbean as a team, and to aid in the development of international referees in the region. The work of the team and Mr. Mills will be monitored by the FIFA Development Office based in Trinidad. While in Switzerland, Mr. Mills had the pleasure of visiting the FIFA headquarters and meeting the FIFA President Mr. Joseph ‘Sepp’ Blatter. Mr. Mills will join Marlon Charles, and Kenrick Grant as instructors in the BVI Football Referees Association charge with the instruction of young referees. NOTICE BOARD The BVI Football Association referees’ committee is asking for all interested referees to contact the BVIFA by emailing bvifa@surfbvi.com to register for the Football Referees beginners course to commence on May 5,6,9 – 2007 in Virgin Gorda, and May 12, 13, 14 in Road Town. The topic of the course will be ‘The Laws of the Game’ and ‘Practical Refereeing’ and would be conducted by BVI Football Referees Association. Candidates could also speak to Mr. Elroy Mills or Kenrick Grant. about joining the BVI Referees Association. There are no fees to join, and no prior knowledge is required. Candidates must have a wiliness to learn and to be part of a global football family. Football Refereeing comes with great potential to advance to the highest level.
