The BVI Football Association has implemented a continuous coaching education program to aid in the development of youth coaches.  The program will be conducted on Tortola and on Virgin Gorda, by BVI staff coache Lenroy ‘Left’ Henry.   At a strategic Planning meeting held on Wednesday October 24th, between the coaches taking part in the Youth Development Program, and the General Secretary of the BVIFA, Mr. Kenrick Grant, it was decided that in order to provide effective coaching to accelerate youth players’ development, more coaches will be needed.  In order to satisfied this shortage, the BVIFA is inviting National Team Players, parents, and teachers to register for coaches training.  The training will be more practical and hands on, but will also include some classroom work.  “Participants will be working with children from ages six to fifteen, so interested persons do not need to have any experience, only an interest to work with young people”, stated Mr. Grant.  “There are a number of people in the BVI with a wealth of knowledge that can help young people to develop into intelligent athletes and proud citizens’ Grant concluded.   ‘Left’ Henry stated that this is what the BVI Football Association sent him away to learn and this is what he always wanted to do.’ Coaches will work with the participants of the After School Program and the Center Of Excellence, under the guidance of Mr. Henry.     ‘Continuous coaches education fits into the BVIFA five year development plan’, stated Mr. Vincent Samuel, Youth Development Officer.  All the coaches have agreed that coordination of training is necessary to ensure that all of the children on Virgin Gorda and Tortola advance at the same pace.  Mr. Samuel will manage the curriculum and assist the coaches in their session planning.  Mr. Grant encouraged regular meeting between the coaches to access the program and to share their experiences.    Training Instructor Lenroy‘Left’ Henry played for the BVI senior team from 1985 to 1991, he possesses a Class C certificate from Concacaf, International Coaching Certificate from the British FA, and a Coaching Instructor Certificate from FIFA.   All interested persons are asked to contact Mr. Samuel at the BVI Football Association on Tortola, at telephone 4945655 and Mr. Avanell Clarkie Morton on Virgin Gorda.
