The opening of the2007 Department of Youth Affairs and Sports Primary School League commenced on Wednesday 18th of April in front of  a large crowd of parents and students at the Cedar School Grounds.  The collaboration between the BVI Football Association and the Youth Affairs and Sports Department is now its third year running.    The march pass of teams was very colorful and grand, with over a hundred and twenty children participating.   Speakers at the event included Bishop Ishmael Charles of New Testament Worship Center who did the invocation, Mr. Kenrick Grant the coordinator of the event, Mr. Robert Chalwell Director of the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr.Andrew Bickerton  Corporate sponsor from BDO BVI, and Mr. Llewellyn Dasent President of the BVI Football Association.  The speakers reminded the children to enjoy the league and to show respect to the officials and match referees.  The parents were also reminded of the importance of demonstrating support for their children by attending the matches and cheering their children on.   The league will be contested in the Under sevens, Under nines, and Under Twelve’s category, and includes teams from all the primary schools on Tortola and Virgin Gorda.  The President of the BVI Football Association Mr. Dasent apologized for not having a team from Jost Van Dyke present in this year’s league, but promised that they will be present at a later stage.  Cedar School is the defending champions, and has the largest contingent in the league.  All matches will be played at the Cedar and Althea Scatliffe Grounds school grounds.   The crowd was then treated to a few exhibition matches in the under twelve division, which was entertaining and demonstrated the competition which is to come..   The league will run from April 19th to the end of June..
