VIRGIN GORDA—The Guy Boys opened the first full weekend of the Virgin Gorda Football Association Earl Wilson Soccer league on Sunday, with a 5-2 victory over the BVI Under 21 team, after building a 3-0 halftime advantage in the game played at the Valley Recreation Grounds.
Defender Ron Parris gave Guy Boys the early lead 20 minutes into the game, when he scored on a penalty. Two minutes later, midfielder Eldon Williams scored the first of two successive goals, the second coming in the 24th minute, for a 3-0 lead which they would carry into halftime as they held the Under 21 team scoreless.
Four minutes into the second half, Clayton McGuy put the Under 21 team—comprised of native players from Tortola and Virgin Gorda—on the board with his legger after beating the defense. David O’Connor cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 55th minute in what turned out would be the last time the young team would penetrate the Guy Boys’ defense.
Substitute mid fielder Aubrey Best added an insurance goal for the Guy Boys in the 77th frame, before midfielder Lionel Grimes rounded out the scoring five minutes later.
The Sugar Boys came back to tie the Wolves at 3-3 in the second game, avoiding defeat just before the end of regulation in the see saw battle. Sieevine Joseph scored the Sugar Boys’ first goal in the 20th minute. Wolves’ Gustavo Gertzenstein made it 1-1 in the 30th minute, before forward Paladino Alessandro scored five minutes later, for a 2-1 advantage they would hold into the half.
Sugar Boys’ forward Jairo Morris beat the Wolves’ defense to knot the game at 2-2, in the 57th minute of play to end 37 minutes scoreless drought. Kutz LaPaige gave the Wolves a 3-2 edge, when he scored from the right side off a crossing pass. Morris scored his second goal three minutes before the end of regulation as both squads settled for a 3-3 draw.
